What do you provide to schools?
(such as overseas expeditions, UK programmes, outdoor activities etc)
Operation Wallacea is a series of biological and social science expedition projects that operate in remote locations across the world. These expeditions are designed with specific wildlife conservation aims in mind - from identifying areas needing protection, through to implementing and assessing conservation management programmes. What is different about Operation Wallacea is that large teams of university academics, who are specialists in various aspects of biodiversity or social and economic studies, are concentrated at the target study sites.

Research Assistants joining the surveys therefore have the option of customising their own itinerary from a range of training and science options at each of the sites. It also provides an excellent environment for students to complete their dissertations or senior theses. The surveys result in a large number of publications in peer-reviewed journals each year, have resulted in 30 vertebrate species new to science being discovered, 4 'extinct' species being re-discovered and $2 million levered from funding agencies to set up best practice management examples at the study sites. These large survey teams of academics and volunteers that are funded independently of normal academic sources have enabled large temporal and spatial biodiversity and socio-economic data sets to be produced, and provide information to help with organising effective conservation management programmes.

What do you provide to schools?
(such as overseas expeditions, UK programmes, outdoor activities etc)
Outlook is committed to offering life-changing overseas expeditions and UK-based adventure opportunities to schools and youth groups. All of our expeditions and programmes have an emphasis on quality and consideration for the environment. We believe that education is the most effective way to combat environmental degradation.

Expeditions Worldwide - We offer either Longer Journeys or Shorter Journeys to young people aged between 13 and 18 years old. Our expeditions range from the chance to spend 7 to 28 days in exciting long and short haul destinations across the globe. Participants can choose to take part in worthwhile environmental or community project work, challenging trekking and adventure activities, and visits to places of cultural interest. The possibilities are endless. Every Outlook Expedition is unique and handcrafted with care, made by specialists who live and breathe the outdoors.

UK Based Programmes - At home in the UK, we run adventure activity and personal development programmes and award schemes, such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the John Muir Award for young people. Based in the heart of the mountains, it is a pretty good view from the Outlook Development Centre , the hub of all of Outlook's operations on the edge of Snowdonia National Park - even on a Monday morning! The centre acts as a well-positioned and comfortable base for residential programmes - offering fully catered bunkhouse accommodation as well as camping in the adjacent fields. We have mountains, rivers, oceans, cliffs and breathtaking wild countryside on our doorstep. Our team in Scotland can't complain either. Based in our office in Crieff, they work amongst the spectacular scenery of Perthshire ? a good staging point to look after our Scottish clients and those in northern England.

What do you provide to schools?
(such as overseas expeditions, UK programmes, outdoor activities etc)

Multi-Phase Expeditions - Successful school expeditions combine a defined aim (or defined aims), achievable objectives, a spirited team and experienced leadership. The defined expedition phases will help provide purpose for your journey.

Cultural Orientation - In-country Cultural Orientation is all about getting out and about. Not only does this take you to the landmark sites of your host country, but it also gets you into the real world of its everyday life.

Language Schools - Learning even a few basic phrases can make a huge difference to how your team members interact within the local culture. South American expeditions provide excellent Spanish learning opportunities.

Development Projects - Project based expeditions enable the team to "give something back" to the host community and the local environment. They also provide a unique insight into the lifestyle of the local culture.

Wilderness Exploration - Multi-day treks, bike rides and river trips get your school expedition away from the mainstream and help develop team dynamics and group skills, as well as offering the satisfaction of individual achievements.

And that's not all! You may have other goals to consider. Call us or visit www.school-expedition.org.uk to see how we can help build your Expedition.
