Publications
The Young Explorers' Trust in association with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) has produced a number of publications to provide practical help to expedition leaders planning a youth expedition.

All these publications below may be downloaded free and may be reproduced without charge so long as the YET (and where appropriate the RGS-IBG) is acknowledged.

Safe and Responsible Expeditions

Guidelines for Youth Expeditions
Rev. Ed. March 2002

Drawing on the experience and hard-won knowledge of accomplished expedition leaders who have collectively led hundreds of adventurous expeditions both in Britain and overseas, these publications, in association with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), are a comprehensive guide to the philosophy and the practical arrangements that should underpin any safe and responsible youth expedition.
Environmental Responsibility for Expeditions
2nd Ed, 2002
Written in association with the British Ecological Society, this publication highlights the issues that should be taken into consideration when planning and organising an expedition to assess the damage an expedition might do to the environment and the steps that should be taken to minimise such damage.
Expedition and Field Leader's Logbook
Intended to complement other existing logbook schemes (such as the Mountain Leader Logbook) the Expedition and Field Leader's Logbook was developed by the YET and RGS (IBG) to provide a framework and record for leaders wishing to develop their expedition leadership skills through training and further relevant experience. The Logbook also acts as a reference for leaders and organisations wishing to assess the training and experience of the holder.
A Guide to Fieldwork for Youth Expeditions
Some fieldword situations (such as working in pro-glacial streams, on steep slopes or in areas with potentially dangerous animals) can carry significant risks and may require leaders or additional leaders with the competence to ensure safety. YET strongly recommends conformity with BS 8848 for all ventures, including those involving fieldwork, and this guide, written by Mark Smith offers teams a comprehensive guide to carrying out fieldwork safely, the tools you need and links to useful guides and organisations.
