Sad news

Richard Gilbert, who has died aged 80, was a remarkable man. An inspirational teacher and author, his love of the outdoors and his respect for the environment were brought together in a series of expeditions he led and organised from his school, Ampleforth College. These included expeditions to Morocco, the Himalayas and Iceland. He was a valuable member of the YET’s screening panels for many years giving wise support to many youth expeditions. Among his bestselling books were Big Walks, Classic Walks and Wild Walks, all in the British Isles, which were wonderful to read and inspired us all. Read more...
