2022 Stephenson Lifetime Achievement Award

Young Explorers' Trust

The recipient of The Stephenson Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022 is Sir Martin Holdgate.

On Saturday 29 October, H Tanner — the YET Vice Chairman — presented the Award, by video link, to Sir Martin at the annual BES gathering of the Young Explorers “Next Steps” held at University of London Senate House.

This year BSES (now British Exploring Society) celebrates 90 years of youth expeditions and YET has 50 years of supporting expeditions for young people. It is therefore very appropriate at this juncture in the history of both organisations that Sir Martin is the recipient for he was Chairman of BSES in the 1970s and a founder member and Chairman of YET.

In addition he has maintained a wide interest and contribution to expeditions in many ways, recognising their value as a means of knowledge of the environment and instrument for personal development, points Sir Martin emphasised in his acceptance address and interview with Honor Wilson-Fletcher, the current CEO of BES.
