Award Winners 2015

Young Explorers' Trust

Stephenson Award

Two awards made using the individual & expedition branches. These went to Hannah Gillie, a member of the BES Expedition to the Indian Himalayas and Charlie Smith as leader of a peer group expedition aiming to cross Iceland in winter.

David Hollier Award

Catriona Collie is undertaking a 10 day Explorer Belt Scout Expedition in Iceland.

DYEG Award

Eve Kenyon of Swanwick School, Derbyshire is a member of their expedition to Cambodia using a school link to help in a community project.

Everest Awards

Jessica Brown is a member of an Outlook Expeditions expedition to Morocco where she will trek in the mountains and undertake community work. Charlie Gregory will be a member of a small experienced team studying & photographing wolves on Vancouver Island. Tim Miller is a first year student at Glasgow University and is a member of A British Universities team aiming to make first ascents of in the Kyrgyzstan mountains. James Pedley, a deaf student at More House School, is going to Peru on a World Challenge expedition with  trekking and community aims. Matthew Stoner a member of the ATC will be in South Africa undertaking conservation, community work and trekking. Niamh Varney, from Bradley Stoke Community School will experience conservation, community work and trekking in Malaysia.

Jim Bishop Award

George Hill from St David’s School will be using the schools International link to be a member of their community project team in Uganda.

John Hunt Award

In 2015 this is a special expedition award for a special project from a special school, Hilltop School in Lincolnshire.  Their students have profound physical and learning difficulties and are canoeing part of the River Ancholme in Lincolnshire for their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Vivian Fuchs Awards

Adrian Charteris is a member of the Exeter St Peter’s School organized expedition to explore and work on a community project in Malawi. Freddie Cooper’s expedition is to Thailand with World Challenge. This Newark Academy student will undertake  community work and a trek. Joanne Hitchcock plans to climb & trek in the Everest Base Camp Area as a member of the Leicester High School & 360 Expeditions team. Sophie Lumsden from the Durham University Charity Kommittee (DUCK) will be undertaking environmental and conservation work in Borneo and Gathoni Shirlyn* will be a member of the Worksop College Greenland expedition planning to climb and do scientific environmental work. Alex Weston-Hardy from Cambridge University will be carrying out a Biodiversity project in Carpathians, Romania with Operation Wallacea.

YET Awards

Max Beech a student at the Royal Grammar School, Guildford is a member of a Coral Kay expedition to Monserrat covering marine & terrestrial  science. Megan Cambell, of a Cambridge church community group working on a community project in  Watoto, Uganda. Oliver Eve will be in Fiji in the summer working with Projects abroad on a shark conservation project. Malba Hanyana will be trekking and working on a community project in Hong Kong with an ATC Expedition.  Lo Luke will be attending a series of camps in the UK with the Woodcraft Folk.. Fern O’Shaunessy of Wycombe HIghSchool is a member of a youth expedition to Zambia & Botswana. Katie Smythe, from Aldridge School, will join a Camps International expedition to Borneo undertaking community and environmental work with the opportunity to undertake a PADI scuba diving course.. Alfie Stanbury of Cherwell Comprehensive School will be in Swaziland with a World Challenge Group trekking and working on a community project. Emma Walters of York University will also be a member of the Operation Wallacea biodiversity project in Carpathians, Romania.
