The 2013 Award goes to Maggie Brown. Her work with schools expeditions goes back to 1980’s when she was an assistant leader of expeditions to Norway and Iceland. Awarded a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship in 1991 she visited Norway to study how the Norwegians supported handicapped people in adventurous activities. This interest has been maintained and she is a Trustee of the Equal Adventure Charity.
Since 1980 she has been actively involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as a trainer, assessor and supervisor in many parts of the UK.
For the last 15 years she has been the convener of the Youth Exploration Awards of the Young Explorers’ Trust. These awards are to support young members of youth expeditions from the UK to many remote areas of the world.
