The present Covid-19 situation has been particularly difficult for the younger generation in so many ways and there is great disappointment for many youngsters who have planned to be members of an expedition abroad.
50 years ago an expedition from Shirebrook Comprehensive and Armthorpe School took 32 youngsters and 10 staff to Arctic Norway. During the four weeks in this remote and spectacular area they followed a full programme of exploration, adventure and fieldwork. To celebrate this I, the expedition leader and former Chairman of YET, have compiled a photo record of the expedition.
It is hoped that this will provide some opportunity to experience the great thrill of expeditions through a virtual experience but more importantly inspire young people to plan ahead to join their own expedition when the current situation is over.
